An individual wishing to enrol in this skill set must hold the unit CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry or its equivalent unit. Additionally, applicants will need to undertake an LLN assessment and be over the age of 16 at the time of enrolment.

Successful completion of the following three units of competency inclusive of at least 20 hours practical experience applying the relevant skills and knowledge in a temporary traffic management workplace:
- RIICOM201E Communicate in the workplace
- RIIWHS205E Control traffic with stop-slow bat
- RIIWHS206 Control traffic with portable traffic control devices and temporary traffic signs.
The assessment for the units of competency comprises both theoretical and practical components. The practical assessment component is to be undertaken after the practical experience is gained. Practical experience requirements must be completed on declared Temporary Traffic Management Category 1 roads within at least six months of successfully completing the theoretical component.
This skill set has been created to align to the requirements of individuals responsible for traffic control in temporary traffic management, as described in the Austroads Guide to Temporary Traffic Management Category 1 environments.
Licensing, legislative and certification requirements that apply to this skill set can vary between states, territories and industry sectors. Users must check requirements with relevant body before applying the skill set.
The units provide credit towards a number of Certificate II and Certificate III qualifications in the RII Resources and Infrastructure Industry Training Package and other training packages, such as RII30920 Certificate III in Civil Construction or equivalent.
