Course Overview

The UEE30420 Certificate III in Data and Voice Communications provides the foundational skills and knowledge required to work in Australia’s telecommunications and data cabling industries. This nationally recognised qualification is designed for individuals seeking to become licensed cablers, capable of installing, maintaining, and repairing voice and data communication systems across a variety of environments.

Throughout this course, you will learn how to safely and effectively install structured cabling, including fibre optics and coaxial systems, while ensuring compliance with the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) standards. You’ll gain hands-on experience using the latest tools and technologies, and develop the skills required to troubleshoot, test, and maintain systems used in modern residential and commercial networks.

This qualification also meets the training requirements for Open Cabler Registration, with options to add endorsements such as Structured Cabling, Optical Fibre, and Coaxial Cabling.

Telecommunications Units

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, although applicants will need to undertake an LLN assessment. Students who are colour blind may not be appropriate for this qualification.

Government funding is available for this course. In order to be eligible for funding, students must meet all section criteria as outlined by the Victorian Government.

Upon completion of this qualification, students are eligible to execute:

  • ACMA Restricted & Open Cabling Registration
  • Install voice & data equipment (VOIP)
  • Lay underground cabling in Pit & Pipe
  • Install & terminate Copper, Fibre & Aerial data cabling
  • Cable testing & fault finding
  • Setup of wireless & advanced IP networks & equipment

The training is conducted by a qualified, industry current, trainer and assessor to ensure the learning is relevant and up to date. This training will take place in a classroom environment using face-to-face training methods at one of our study locations. Intakes are scheduled throughout the year.

This course is delivered over a period of 13-24 months (25 sessions - a combination of theory and pratical) in the form of an apprenticeship.

Upon completion, students could go further with their study with an ICT30519 - Certificate III in Telecommunications Technology.
